Congress to Review Textbook Legislation February 7, 2008
this is such a great idea. people forget that along with tuition, textbooks can run you $500-$1000+ per year. i have yet to use the CD-ROMs that come with textbooks, and some professors say that an older edition is fine because the new edition is the same except for one chapter. a rental service would be great, too. there’s a couple of books that i only have to use for 2 weeks during the semester and then i don’t need it again.
plus, reselling textbooks is a bitch. you can get more money if you sell them online, but it’s just a hassle to ship them out individually. the bookstore gives you PENNIES, even if you never touched the book and it just sat on your shelf for a semester. some of my smaller paperbacks that were $12-$15 i got $2 for, then the bookstore will resell them as “used” for about $10. it’s not fair to the students, especially if the book is the newest edition and has hardly been used.
Harry Potter Author Snubs Finnish Printing Paper January 25, 2008
i really respect jk rowling for this. millions of her books are printed, and the thousands and thousands of pages of paper shouldn’t come from trees in the rainforest.

jk rowling is a 2007 person of the year runner-up. (yes this is delayed because i’m still catching up on my magazines that came during the semester break and i just got through the poy issue.)
Harry Potter and the Film of Two Halves January 14, 2008
good, warner brothers finally got smart. they should have done it with ALL of the longer books, though, not just the last one! i’m still upset about how much was cut out of the 5th movie. weasley is our king, and SPEW, etc.
…although, i’m not sure how much the daily mail can be trusted.
and SPIELBERG!!
