this woman deserves some money. i know first-hand what it’s like to use your data. luckily, i jumped on it and managed to get it all back, but i went through a 24 hour period thinking i lost my entire 3,000+ itunes collection, school documents, downloads, and about 6,000 priceless digital photographs (i’m a photographer, so these are especially important to me, not just memory-wise). besides the fact that she lost her data, she also lost a $1,000+ investment when she paid for a warranty!! the possibility of identity theft is the icing on the cake.

everyone knew it was going to have an economic impact but… TWO BILLION?!
this is such a great idea. people forget that along with tuition, textbooks can run you $500-$1000+ per year. i have yet to use the CD-ROMs that come with textbooks, and some professors say that an older edition is fine because the new edition is the same except for one chapter. a rental service would be great, too. there’s a couple of books that i only have to use for 2 weeks during the semester and then i don’t need it again.
plus, reselling textbooks is a bitch. you can get more money if you sell them online, but it’s just a hassle to ship them out individually. the bookstore gives you PENNIES, even if you never touched the book and it just sat on your shelf for a semester. some of my smaller paperbacks that were $12-$15 i got $2 for, then the bookstore will resell them as “used” for about $10. it’s not fair to the students, especially if the book is the newest edition and has hardly been used.
well, now this is just encouraging europeans and could result in an increase in the gap between the dollar and the euro.

this is so weird to think about. i hope that the money raised at the dispatch concert to benefit zimbabwe that i went to this summer helped, at least a little bit.
